Why is getting your cartilage pierced dangerous?

i asked earlier if i should pierce it myself, which im NOT anymore, but people said that there are nerves which if you hit them, cause extreme pain and paralysis!! also, your cartilage shattering.


i can understand the cartilage shattering, but i dont understand the whole paralysis thing in getting your cartilage pierced?


btw, im talking about the upper outer ear area?


another thing, they say its extremely risky for professionals to do it??

there are more nerves in there, but if you get it done by a professional who knows what they are doing nothing bad will happen. hard to explain so here is some Q%26amp;A i wrote for someone


-How to prevent a scar if you might want to close it up when you鈥檙e older: do not get it done with a hollow needle, use a regular needle.


-How to prevent the cartilage from shattering: don鈥檛 get it done with a gun, that should only be used on the lobes and shatters the cartilage if you use it on the tougher cartilage. As long as you don鈥檛 use a gun there is no risk of this.


-How to prevent infection: Go somewhere where they clean their equipment and be sure to clean it every day. The people who got infections were people who went to an unsanitary place or didn鈥檛 clean it regularly.


-How long will it take to heal? It can take anywhere from 3 weeks to a year, but because I heal so fast it will probably take closer to 3 weeks.


-How painful is it? The actual piercing of it is not very painful, but afterwards it will be a little sore. I am aware of this, and take into consideration that I do have a high tolerance for pain and it won鈥檛 hurt me as much as other people.


-Can you change the earring? Once it鈥檚 healed you can take it out and change the earring.
Reply:Dude, I got my cartilage peirced three times in one sitting. No problems at all. That and I got them guaged. It does hurt a lot but, really I doubt there'll be any huge problem
