My first child was recently born and I wanted to get a tattoo to celebrate.?

I've always wanted to get a tattoo. My idea was to recreate a Buddhist story that represented the past, present, and future. It is a story to get you to focus on the now. Here is a short version: A monk is being chased by a tiger and he gets to the edge of a cliff. He sees a vine and jumps down. There are jagged rocks below and the tiger above. Suddenly a rat/mouse comes out from a hole on the cliff face and starts to eat the vine. The monk notices a strawberry plant growing off the side of the cliff, takes a strawberry and says outloud, "this is most delicious strawberry I have ever eaten."

The tiger represents the past, the jagged rocks are the future and the present is the strawberry.

To put that into a tattoo, I wanted to use my shoulder and my arm. Have a tiger at the top looking down, with 2 hands coming up my arm. One of them holding a vine and the other a strawberry.

Is this tattoo too intricate and would my shoulder and arm be enough canvas? I am 5' 10" 185lbs.

Thanks

I think if you see a really good artist, they can definitely do it %26amp; your arm should be enough space. Sounds like a very original idea %26amp; a neat concept. Congrats on your baby %26amp; post a photo when you get the tat!
Reply:what ever floats your boat!
Reply:I would sooner spend the money on the baby, why waste your money?. your baby will need so much in the early months,or put it in savings for your babie's future
Reply:That's really a beautiful story! It will make a great tattoo. No one on Yahoo can do as much as seeing a good artist in person. S/He can draw it out for you and check the proportions on your arm and shoulder. Go to a few places. Talk to a few different artists. Ask questions. Expect it to be a bit pricey, from your description, it will be a rather large piece and will be intricately detailed. But don't go to someone else because it's cheaper! Go to the artist that draws it out for you most nearly to what you want and makes you feel the most comfortable. You get what you pay for in all aspects of life, especially body art. Would love to see a pic of that when it's done. Check out BMEzine.com for tons of info and consider posting a pic on there, too.
Reply:I doubt that you can legally get the tattoo, and if somehow you do, your child may be taken away from you on the grounds of mental instability. Do you really want your kid to have to explain to everyone what that tattoo signifies? Of course not! lol.
Reply:your arm would be enough canvas my dad is a tattoo artist so i would know but no thats not to intricate at all but it might hurt quite a bit
Reply:That sounds freakin' awesome. You are going to want to get a full sleeve (or you could just go half sleeve to your elbow, but it would be a little cramped.).

Go find an artist you like and trust. Go to different shops and look at the artist's portfolios. Ask them if they have done sleeves and explain what you want. If you have drawn it, brink your drawing with you. Otherwise print out different little pics that you would like to have incorporated.

Don't just get it done at the first shop you go to. With sleeves you want the same artist to do the whole thing, so take your time and look carefully for the RIGHT artist. You might want to look in tattoo magazines or even go to a tattoo convention, find people who have amazing ink and ask them who did theirs.

A sleeve is going to run you quite a bit of $$, but it is so worth it, you will be happy if you wait to find that perfect artist.
Reply:it might turn into being a half sleeve and will be very pricey so I would ask for hourly rates, Nothing is really too intricate as long as you're willing to do it at a good size so it doesn't look like a blob in 20 years, Make sure to ask for the artists portfolio and find an artist you're comfortable with, Explain it to them and have them draw the design for you if you haven't already done so, You wont be able to get it all in one sitting however, Most artists charge 80 to 100 dollars an hour so you can do it easily in sessions, Great tattoo idea good luck =)
