Do you really think that having a piercing affects your ability to be employed??

I have two lip piercings that I'm very proud of. Most people that I have talked to think that facial piercings will affect my life later on, like my ability to get a good job, or be taken seriously.

I don't think that at all. What do you think?

it depends on what area your going into, for example dancers usually have piercings like that but if you wanted to be a water quality consultant than they wouldnt hire you.

Well no one will hire you if you keep the piercings IN. Most places when they hire you, they'll make you get a spacer, unless you're working at a tattoo shop or hot topic. Some places may make you take it out altogether while you're working. And some places, especially if they're professional, won't hire you at all, just because of the piercings.
Reply:sometimes they will hire you butt while your working they'll make you take them off. and it also depend where you wanna get hired.
Reply:It all depends on where youre trying to get a job at. Most family oriented places that I know of ask employees to remove their piercings/hide tattoos because older people may find them 'repulsive' or 'offensive'. I honestly doubt it will affect you a great deal in the future, times are changing, more and more places are caring less if you work there with a piercing, etc.
Reply:i love piercings, but yes since i want to work in a hospital it affects if you're hired. so i guess it just depends on where u want to be employed.
Reply:It's naive to think that certain people wont have preconceptions about peircings and if that person happens to be the person doing the hiring its prefectly possible that it may affect your chances of being employed.

It shouldn't, but the world isn't a perfect place I'm afraid

Really depends on the kind of job / work you are going for, some will be more likely to be judgemental, others les so.
Reply:unfortunately yes, it more than likely WILL affect your jobs.

although we shouldnt judge on the way people look and so on and so forth, we DO.

and although we should get to know a person before we judge and so on and so forth, we DONT.

and that my friend is why the world is so fkkd ^ today.
Reply:Most established businesses will ask that you remove your facial piercings as it can be a little imtimidating and scary to some of their customers...places like grocery stores and coffee shops. While many adults are embracing the body piercings and tattooed look, there will always be people who refuse to be waited on by someone they feel is dangerous or different looking.
Reply:I think it does have an effect on the type of job you are looking for. My job is a family orientated-type business and we do not allow piercings, if employees have facial or tongue piercings they have to be removed. How can you believe that you would be taken seriously by someone if you have piercings 'in order to express yourself'. ? unless you are looking for a job at hot topic I would think about the far future and the pros and cons of piercings.
Reply:Unfortunately, many people are prejudiced towards people with piercings. If you are young and this is not yet an issue in your life, then just enjoy your piercings. If it becomes a problem later in life then just remove the jewellery from the piercing for the occasion.
