Help! What do I do?

Last week at the pool I got a really bad sunburn. It started itching and peeling recently, and I scratched it unconciously and this blister-y liquid came out of it (gross, I know). I think it is a second degree burn, because my shoulders and chest are developing blisters. It really burns, as well. It is still VERY sensitive to the touch and hurts even to have a tshirt against it Also, I think I was supposed to go to the pool again tomorrow... would that not be a smart idea? I don't want it to get worse, but it is taking such a long time to heal. I have tried putting witch hazel, natural oatmeal lotion, and aloe gel on it, and it made it burn even more. What can I put on it to take the sting out and make it heal as quick as possible?

You may want to see a doctor...they can give you some cream for this. If not, then you should take some Tylenol for the pain, and get some cool compresses on it. Gel will sting if the skin is broken and raw, so leave that off until it starts to scab. THe best way to do it is to wet a towel and toss it in the freezer for a few minutes, and then put it on the burn. Don't do it for too long, you are susceptible to chills while you're like this. Stay out of the sun for awhile...the pool itself is not bad, but the sun exposure is. Swim in the evening or an indoor pool if you really feel you must.

Definitely do not go back to the pool tomorrow, even if you wear a shirt the whole time. You have to give it time, and all the stuff you are putting on it is probably prolonging the pain!

Here are a couple of things I have heard that might help:

Noxema cream

butter (I don't know....not convinced of this one)

Menthol (like you put on your nose if it's chapped)

The very best thing is really aloe vera, cool baths and giving it a lot of time. I feel your pain! Good luck!
Reply:go c a doctor if u go out again u cn get serious skin cancer,u mite evn start developng moles, so no dat wudnt be smart ure alredy complaining
Reply:to take the sting away , soak in milk for 1 hr lol it sounds corny but it works and next time wear sunscreen!!!
Reply:Cold water helped me.

Ah, yes, that "blister-y liquid" is puss, Dearie. Don't scratch it! That is the worst thing to do..

Stay in the shade and put sunblock on. Don't go to the pool unless it's inside. Lotion that repairs itchy and dry skin is best. You're going to have to be more careful! It's actually quite serious as you get older.

I hope you get better. Keep applying the aloe gel and lotion and have some patience and all will be well.

:)
Reply:dont put lotions or anything else on (it locks the moisture in, i've heard this is a bad thing), take some panadols for the pain. it sounds like a very bad sunburn. If i were you, i take a few days off from doing any 'sun activities'. give it time.
